Editorial Policy
How Small Dog Living researches, reviews, updates and corrects its small-dog health, nutrition, care and product content.
Our editorial purpose
Small Dog Living publishes practical educational guides for owners of small, toy-breed and senior dogs. We aim to answer a useful question completely enough that a reader can make a better everyday decision or know when professional help is needed.
How topics are selected
We prioritize questions that naturally arise in small-dog ownership: feeding by age and size, mobility, dental care, home safety, walking, travel, equipment fit and health warning signs. We avoid creating multiple near-duplicate pages solely to target slightly different search phrases.
Research and sourcing
For veterinary and nutrition topics, we favor established sources such as veterinary manuals, university veterinary programs, professional veterinary organizations, recognized pet-food nutritional standards and primary manufacturer information for current product specifications.
Sources are used to verify factual claims, but our articles are written to add practical context rather than reproduce source material. Where evidence is limited or recommendations depend on the individual dog, we say so.
Health content standards
- We distinguish general education from veterinary diagnosis.
- We do not publish prescription drug dosing for owners to apply on their own.
- We identify emergency warning signs when delaying care could be dangerous.
- We encourage veterinary evaluation when symptoms can have multiple causes.
- We do not claim that food, supplements or home remedies can cure a diagnosed disease without appropriate evidence.
Food and product recommendations
Brand or product names may appear when they provide a useful current example. We look at the complete formulation or practical specifications rather than relying only on marketing phrases. For food, this can include life-stage suitability, calorie density, protein, fat, fiber, omega fatty acids, kibble size and the dog’s body condition. For equipment, fit, dimensions, stability, materials and intended use matter.
Formulas, prices and specifications can change. Readers should verify the current label or manufacturer information before purchasing.
Updates and corrections
We revise articles when important guidance changes, when a product formula or specification changes, when we identify a factual error or when a page can be made substantially more useful. Corrections are made for accuracy rather than hidden to preserve older wording.
Commercial transparency
Editorial usefulness should not depend on payment from a brand. If Small Dog Living uses affiliate links, sponsorships or other commercial relationships in the future, those relationships should be disclosed clearly and should not determine the factual conclusions of an article.
